Introduction

It is common practice to include proposed resolutions in materials presented to board or committee so they can understand what is being requested from them in advance of a meeting. You can also include this information in boardcycle, in which case boardcycle will automatically add that information into the shell minutes and run sheet for that meeting.

Adding a proposed resolution to an item

To add a proposed resolution to an item:

  1. click the edit icon

  2. in the side panel, click on the proposed resolution box

  3. you will then see a pop-up editor appear where you can draft the proposed resolution

  4. when you are finished, click the x icon or click anywhere outside of the editor.

Worth knowing: where to start drafting from

boardcycle's templates all automatically include lead-in wording for you resolution as follows:

"The [forum name] RESOLVES/RESOLVED to:"

The proposed resolution you should add should start from the first word after that lead-in wording.

Proposed resolutions in run sheets and shell minutes

If any text is included in the proposed resolution box, boardcycle will automatically add a resolution section into your run sheet and shell minutes and display that text there.

If no text is included in the proposed resolution box, boardcycle will not show a resolution section in those documents.

Important: proposed resolutions will not appear in shell minutes for items with pre-determined minute drafting

Many boardcycle customers pre-determine how certain very common agenda items (e.g. quorum) are minuted - meaning that every time they add an agenda item with that name, their shell minutes will show pre-determined drafting for that item.

That pre-determined drafting prevails over all other settings for that item, including that any proposed resolution will be ignored.
